Thinking about getting your first Brazilian wax in Auburn, AL, but feeling a little nervous? You are definitely not alone.

Whether you’re a first-time wax client, a college student at Auburn University/Tuskegee University, or you’re simply tired of shaving and dealing with razor bumps and ingrown hairs, knowing what to expect can make the experience much easier.

At Bare Brazilian, our goal is to make your Brazilian waxing experience comfortable, professional, and judgment-free. Here’s everything you should know before your first appointment.

What Is a Brazilian Wax?

A Brazilian wax removes hair from the front and sides of the bikini area and can also include the hair between the cheeks. You can choose how much hair you want to leave in the front—or you can go completely bare.

Your waxer should always discuss your preferences before getting started. There is no “right” amount of hair to remove. Your appointment should be customized to you.

Does a Brazilian Wax Hurt?

Let’s be honest: you may feel some discomfort, especially during your first Brazilian.

The good news is that waxing generally becomes easier as you stay consistent. Your hair grows in cycles, and regular waxing can help you get into a routine where appointments become more predictable.

Your waxer can also help you understand what to expect throughout the service so you’re not caught off guard.

And remember: being nervous is completely normal. Your waxer sees bodies every day. You do not need to feel embarrassed.

How Long Should Your Hair Be Before a Brazilian?

Your hair needs enough length for the wax to grip it properly.

As a general rule, allow the hair to grow for about 2–3 weeks after shaving, depending on how quickly your hair grows.

Try not to shave immediately before your appointment. Hair that is too short may be difficult for the wax to remove effectively.

If you’re unsure whether your hair is long enough, don’t stress. Your waxer can assess it when you arrive.

How Should I Prepare for My First Brazilian?

A little preparation can make your appointment much easier.

Before your appointment:

    ●    Allow your hair to grow out instead of shaving right before your appointment.

    ●    Arrive with clean skin.

    ●    Avoid applying heavy lotions, oils, or body products to the waxing area immediately before your appointment.

    ●    Wear comfortable clothing.

    ●    Avoid excessive exfoliation immediately before waxing.

    ●    Let your waxer know about any products or treatments you are currently using on the area.

Most importantly, don’t overthink it.

You don’t need to do anything fancy before your appointment.

What Happens During a Brazilian Wax?

Your waxer will explain the process and make sure you’re comfortable before beginning.

You’ll be given instructions about positioning throughout the service. Wax is then applied in sections and removed as the service progresses.

Depending on your hair growth and the amount of hair being removed, the service typically takes around 15–30 minutes.

Your waxer may also trim the hair if necessary before waxing.

And yes—you are allowed to talk, ask questions, laugh, or simply relax during your appointment.

What Should I Wear to My Appointment?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is your best option.

After waxing, your skin can be temporarily more sensitive, so tight clothing can cause unnecessary friction.

Think:

    ●    Loose shorts

    ●    Sweatpants

    ●    Comfortable underwear

    ●    Loose dresses or skirts

If you’re getting waxed before a long day of activities, keep friction in mind.

What Should I Avoid After a Brazilian Wax?

Your skin needs a little time to calm down after waxing.

For the first 24–48 hours, it’s generally best to avoid things that create excessive heat, sweat, friction, or irritation.

That can include:

    ●    Hot baths

    ●    Saunas

    ●    Intense workouts

    ●    Swimming

    ●    Tight clothing

    ●    Excessive touching of the area

    ●    Sexual activity

Your waxer may give you personalized aftercare recommendations based on your skin.
